Mr Joe Dick gets watered :)
I had some questions after the pic I posted so I thought I would explain further.
Joe has chronic kidney disease, he is stage 3. It is very common in senior kitties and fortunately easily managed with meds and subcutaneous fluids.
Every other day Joe gets watered, that keeps him properly hydrated and feeling happy enough to destroy my plants.
Most cats will allow their owners to do this, it just takes a bit of time to set up a routine. For Joe, he prefers to get watered in inconvenient places, which is why he was on my sewing table. His other fav place is on Jay's lap.
Most days it takes about 3min total and he loves the extra attention.
Typically he does not bleed although occasionally you can hit a blood vessel and then there is a tiny bit of blood.
We found out he had kidney disease through a routine blood check up 2 years ago. Early symptoms are generally the same as old age which is why senior pet check ups are important. If the disease progresses without treatment it is painful and fatal, fluids add months to years of quality life for kitties with CKD.
